The Acute Injury (Sinew) Channels
Unlike the other Complement Channels, we are born with the Sinew Channels.
They form the body’s first line of defense, always ready to respond to external stress or injury. This is the realm of goosebumps, shivering, sneezing, sweating — and the everyday bumps, bruises, and burns that remind us how alive and responsive the body truly is.
The Sinew Channels act instinctively. Think of them like an air hockey table, where a steady stream of air keeps the puck effortlessly gliding across the surface. In the same way, a healthy body maintains a gentle outward pressure of protective Qi — keeping external factors from penetrating through the skin’s countless pores.
When an acute injury occurs, this same Guarding Qi moves quickly, bringing blood and fluids to the area to promote healing. Acupuncture can support this natural process by helping the body release superficial stagnation, relieve pain, and restore its protective shield. The Acute Injury (Sinew) Channels remind us that healing begins with responsiveness — the body’s instinct to protect, repair, and return to balance.
